How To Know The IP Address of Your Router

If you want to upgrade your existing router’s firmware or you want to increase the security level of your Wireless network using a stronger password, your router’s exact IP address has to be known first so that its settings can be accessed.

Mostly all the routers by default have 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1 as the IP address, but many a times the IP address which is default gets changed for example – at the time of installation and it is difficult to remember the value.

Don’t worry. At least there are two easier ways with you to easily and quickly find out your router’s IP address.

Option #1 – The following command has to be entered in the run box which can be opened from start menu.

cmd /k ipconfig

Under the “Default Gateway” the IP address which is written is the IP address of your router. (screenshot given below).

Option #2 – The run box has to be opened again and the command traceroute has to be typed as displayed below:

cmd /k tracert

At the first hop inside the log of traceroute the IP address that is listed is the IP address of your router.

If this doesn’t work, your router might needs to be reset to the factory default and now the IP address of your router will be changed back to 192.168.1.1. You may even Google your routers name for getting the exact value).
