The same version of Notepad is being shipped by Microsoft with its operating system ever since you may have seen it first. There might be some reason why Notepad is simply not considered worth the trouble by Microsoft. As a large number of people usually require a small utility of desktop for quickly viewing and noting down notes, thus this is quite strange.
There are several third party applications which have thankfully been able to fill the left out gaps in the functionality of Notepad. Personally so far, I have been using my favorite alternative of Notepad called Notepad+. It is just as light in weight as Notepad but it features much more functionality with multiple tabs, line numbers etc. Now an even better alternative of Notepad has been found which is capable of offering lots of features and tabbed note-taking is also available. EditPad Lite is the app that we are talking about.
This app comes in a file of its setup which has a size of around 9 MB. While installing the application, option is there with you for installing it on your computer using the orthodox way or it can also be installed in the form of an application which is portable on your USB drive or computer. After installing the app it can be opened and notes can be taken. The hotkey shortcut Ctrl + N can be simply used when you want to open a new tab for taking notes, a new blank tab will be opened. Previously users had to shift between different windows of Notepad, but now only tabs have to be shifted as EditPad Lite provides different tabs in the same window. Along with tabs, numerous other features are also offered by the app which provides it with great power. For example, text can be easily transformed from uppercase to lowercase and the initial letters can also be set in the uppercase or you may simply select the text and invert its case.
People who generally use their note-taking app in the form of a HTML code editor, will be happy to know that HTML is fully supported in EditPad Lite. From syntax highlighting to line indentation, this app will be highly useful for HTML coders. After completion of the process of code editing, it can be quickly send for viewing in a browse using just a shortcut button which is present on the application.
Particularly for coders there are a few more features which will be appreciated such as deleting duplicate lines, blank line consolidation and whitespace trimming.
Using the built-in support in the app search can be performed for specific text using the support regular expressions which are additional to the text-search which is regular. The application also provides features of search-and-replace.
Any windows user will be served excellently by the EditPad Lite who wants to go beyond the limits created by Notepad. This app should not be missed at all – it will definitely not disappoint you.
